My first week back from maternity leave is over and it was a success! My mom generously offered to watch Jack Tuesdays and Thursdays (the days I'm on campus) and they seem to be having tons of fun together. I have to say, it has been nice getting out of the house and going to a job I actually know how to do. I have so much more confidence in general from just these two days of interacting with students, lecturing, and wearing real clothes. Things I've been doing for years fairly well. I think that my paid work helps me be a better worker for the other shift I work with the little one. I don't feel as at sea at home and I feel like my week has some structure.
Having my mom here to watch him is just the best possible scenario and I feel totally lucky and blessed that it worked out this way. She's super excited to get to do it, I don't have to leave him with people I don't know, and he gets to stay home. Plus, she says she "gets bored" and feels the need to vacuum and mop and stuff. I come home and notice little things like the microwave has been cleaned or the layer of dust is gone from the furniture. I honestly don't know what I've done to deserve this!
Here's a pic of my mom and the baby at the bris. Clearly she's in love:
I am tired, and he's had some really fussy nights, but he's doing great. Eating well, growing all the time! I swear I watch him growing some days. He's getting back a lot of the hair he lost. And he's finally a 10 pounder. Took a while, but he's finally out of newborn diapers and fitting into 0-3 month clothing. Here are a few of the latest pics of the little guy.
